Stones by Mikell
Thank you for your interest in a stone by Mikell. These stones are a celebration of nature, beginning with the selection and preparation of each stone, the consideration of the subject that is painted, the materials used and the final sealing.
Stones
The stones are natural field stone found locally. The Italian stone mason who works with the artist to select and prepare the stones estimates that these stones were formed millions of years ago. As with all things in nature, each stone is unique.
Subject
The artist is blessed to live next to the beautiful Yellow Breeches Creek in South Central PA. A renowned ichthyologist from Penn State suggested the 8 fish featured in her Yellow Breeches Fish Series. Other birds, plants and animals can be seen along the waterway. Each painting is drawn free hand so no two are alike.
Paint
Acrylic paints are used for their durability. These paints have good adhesive qualities, are very stable, and they resist decomposition. They are not easily damaged by humidity or extremes of weather.
Sealer
Each stone is finished with a sealer that protects in all types of weather so the stones can be used outdoors as well as indoors. The artist has worked with a scientist from Golden to conduct tests to ensure the durability of the paint and finish used on the stones.
